Like many Puerto Rican’s that were born and raised in the States, I spent my childhood summers in PR. In my faint memories of visiting El Centro, it was a vibrant place full of shops and life.

Today it’s a much quieter atmosphere, but still home to some great food, art, shopping and more…

Los Museos de Bayamon

The below museums are free to the public:

  • Museo de Arte de Bayamon features comptempory and Puerto Rican artist, has a sculpture garden and is often free or very low-cost depending on the exhibitions.

  • Museo Oller dedicated to major Puerto Rican Impressionist painter Francisco Oller. This museum is small, historic and intimate. Also features a small gallery of contemporary art.

  • Museo Francisco Manuel Oller y Cestero - A historial Museum dedicated to Francisco Oller

  • Museo Archivo - the hidden gem museum of Bayamon as its not a traditional art museum but features visual archives and exhibitions

  • Casa Museo Jose Celso Barbosa a bit of a time capsule, this historic museum features the home of Jose Celso Barbosa, the first Puerto Rican to attain a doctoral degree in America.
