0 Trimester, Zero time to waste
Back in January my partner and I got engaged, and quickly began planning to start a family. It’s a bit late for us both; he’s in his mid-40’s and I’m mid-30’s. Initially my main focus was to lose some weight leading up to pregnancy and ease the “bounce back”. My phone must have been listening, cause occasionally things would pop up on my feed.
‘6 months preconception cut out alcohol’
‘the dad’s lifestyle determines genetics’
‘things to do pre-conception’
It seemed like the trending topic, and while it caught my interest in the way that everything you scroll does for all of 5 seconds, I was still 11 months out from attempting to become pregnant, and not quite feeling the sense of urgency my procrastinating brain requires. Fast forward to May: where did the last 4 months go? and oh, its time to lock in! I began researching Pre-Pregnancy Preparation. It seemed like all the rage on my IG algorithm, but no where near as accessible when it came to actual substantial long form content. Youtube was giving me surface level videos, but I wanted all deep holistic/biohacking type approaches, not which prenatal vitamins to buy.
The reality is, there is such little information about what we should be doing pre-conception and women’s health in general. Most of the information out there focuses on what to do once you’ve already conceived. So, what have I been doing? Trying to get myself to be the most optimal in terms of my overall health and wellness -mentally and physically. I’ve been learning about the microbiome, women’s hormonal health, and developing a better understanding of my bodies abilities. I’m running, lifting, fasting, and prioritizing fiber, healthy fats and protein in my diet. I’m cutting out endocrine disrupters like fragrance, phalates and pesticides from my overall life. I’m practicing lymphatic drainage through sauna sessions, my vibration plate and practices like dry brushing/gua sha. And using technology through some helpful gadgets that help me track things like my Co2, body fat %, sleep and heart rate.
The best part of this all is no matter what the outcome, I will be a better version of myself, whether I’m a mother or not. And that being said, I’m not a medical provider, licensed in any way or making promises to anyone, especially not myself. Part of being the best version of myself is sharing my experiences with other women on the same journey. So I’ll be sharing my practices, recipes, and resources and hopefully we can all be better together.
